The hotel is the ideal place from which to comfortably discover on foot the city, the traditional tourist spots and even the less frequented places that are nonetheless just as charming, as well as the famous historical and artistic landmarks, the museums and suggestive areas that have made Florence famous the world over. The very beautiful Duomo crowned by the famous Cupola, a revolutionary first Renaissance work by Brunelleschi, and next to it the 12th century Campanile by Giotto, and in Piazza San Giovanni, the marvelous Battistero, all can be reached on a 10-minute walk along Via Faenza, Via Zannetti and Via dei Cerretani, where you can take in the Florentine charm of the very narrow streets with their traditional artisan shops, trattorie and typical cantine.
A most typical atmosphere can be had at Borgo San Lorenzo, at 5 minutes from Mario's, where the Basilica of the same name stands, and where are housed important Renaissance paintings and sculptures and the Cappelle Medicee: the Sagrestia Vecchia, done by Brunelleschi, and the extraordinary Sagrestia Nuova by Michelangelo, the family funeral chapel of the Medici. On the left of the Basilica can be found the Biblioteca Medicea, also a work by Michelangelo and commissioned by the Medici family to accommodate precious papyrus, manuscripts and other works.
Just as typical is the covered Mercato Centrale, in iron and glass. Built in the 19th century, it offers fruits and vegetables and stands of every kind amid a bustling atmosphere full of color. Inside this market, as well as on the stands of the street market, one can still find the now rare "banchini dei trippai" where one can savor one of the most typical flavors of Florence, the Panino con il Lampredotto, a sort of tripe flavored with spices and tomatoes, preferably accompanied with a good glass of Chianti.

From here walk 350 meters: keep on your left and continue on Piazza Adua, after about 60 meters take Via Bernardo Cennini and continue until you come across Via Faenza. BY TRAIN From Stazione Santa Maria Novella you will arrive on foot after only 5 minutes (350 meters). Take the exit on the left for Piazza Adua, keep on your left and continue on Piazza Adua, after about 60 meters take Via Bernardo Cennini and continue until you come across Via Faenza. Turn on your right and you will have arrived, Hotel Mario's stands at no. 89.
BY CAR Coming from the north, from Pisa and from highways A1 Bologna-Milano and A11 Lucca-Genova, exit at Firenze Nord and follow directions for the Center and then for Stazione - Fortezza da Basso. After the underpass of Fortezza da Basso take Viale Spartaco Lavagnini and turn right at the first traffic light on Via Santa Caterina d'Alessandria and continue straight up to Santa Maria Novella Station. Turn right at the light and after 100 meters turn right again at Piazza Adua and just across from it, take Via Cennini. At the end turn right, after 20 meters you will find Hotel Mario's at number 89. Coming from the south, from Siena (SS22) or from highway A1 Roma-Napoli, exit at Firenze Sud and follow directions for the Center, then for Stazione - Fortezza da Basso. When you reach Piazza della Libertà turn left at the first light (as if you were circling the square) and after the second light take Viale Lorenzo il Magnifico which is across from it, a little to the right; at the first light turn left (Via Poliziano) and at the next traffic light cross the street and keep right and take Via Santa Caterina d'Alessandria. Continue straight up to Santa Maria Novella Station. Turn right at the light and after 100 meters turn right again at Piazza Adua and just across from it, take Via Cennini. At the end turn right, after 20 meters you will find Hotel Mario's at number 89.
